2017 Cadillac CT6 Three.0 TT Premium Luxury review: Going somewhere fresh

The Three.0 TT is also the very first (claims Cadillac, and you’re free to debunk if you can) turbocharged engine with cylinder deactivation. At light fountain, the Three.0 TT will shut down three cylinders for diminished fuel consumption. Over four hundred fifty five miles of driving, we recorded 21.6 mpg with the Cadillac CT6 Trio.0 TT, and as much as 30.1 mpg over fifty miles of driving. While the overall mileage is pretty darned close to the EPA’s combined fuel consumption, our observed highway mileage is well beyond what the EPA tests say. City mpg is rated at eighteen mpg, with twenty six mpg for highway. And that’s without worrying about fuel consumption. And it’s with the all-wheel drive standard on all CT6 models with either V-6 engine.

For a full-size car, it’s remarkably nimble on a narrow back road. Our test two thousand seventeen Cadillac CT6 Three.0 TT Premium Luxury had the optional all-wheel steering, and we can’t say for certain that it made treating better than it would otherwise, but we can say that it got around rather well. The torque was good for pulling out of corners, and under total acceleration, or even part pedal, the transmission would shift cleanly with a crisp edge. The only way to get shifts-you-can’t-feel is to go light on the throttle.

Sporty aspects aside, the interior of the two thousand seventeen Cadillac CT6 we tested was utter luxury, with fully stitched dash and neatly tailored seats. The seats are adequately bolstered for as much as most drivers will throw the CT6 around but no so much as to make entry and exit difficult.

The interior is officially called Jet Black and Cinnamon, the latter looking like the color of a University of Texas t-shirt. We called the interior “world class” in our notes, the styling “exciting without being too much.” There are a lot of different textures and colors, with perforated “leather” on the dash, along with a carbon fiber look material and metallic accents. It sounds busy but it all come together well.

The instrument panel is fully full-color liquid crystal, and can be reconfigured to the driver’s desires. It’s an effortless, brief learning curve to do it, and it’s all possible using the four-way rocker switch on the right-side spoke of the steering wheel. Cadillac’s infotainment system, dubbed CUE, is often maligned, including by one CarBuzzard staffer who shall remain nameless. (She has a name but we won’t say it). This writer doesn’t see a problem, and there are certainly systems that are much worse. The touch pad on the center console, which adds a layer of remoteness to the screen, compared to just touching the screen, will require practice to develop the deft touch required. It defies the Keep It Plain Stupid rule.

Cadillac night vision is actually just an infrared camera that displays on the instrument panel. It’s intended to assist just looking out the windshield, but we found that looking at it required us to look away from the road. Similarly, the pedestrian warning system (it warns the driver of pedestrians, not the other way around) was activated for example by a traffic cop standing in the middle of an intersection…long after we eyed him. Perhaps if it was indeed dark… But with those standard LED headlights, that’s not likely to happen.

One more complaint. The heated steering wheel automatically turns off before the steering wheel is heated up. On cold mornings we were hitting the on button like a mouse in a cheese-for-button-pushing experiment. For us it was warm palms.

The Cadillac CT6 may have taken Caddy where it’s never been before, and indeed it has. What we like is the way it took us anywhere we desired to go. Road tour, anyone?
