£9m Audi car dealership boost for town centre
PLAN: How the fresh £9 million Audi dealership will look when ended
A STATE-OF-THE-ART £9 million car dealership development will be built on the edge of Bolton town centre after plans were approved.
The flagship fresh Audi car showroom — with space for one hundred vehicles on site — will be created on the site of the former Bolton Community College, off Manchester Road.
Council chiefs have signed off plans with the Inchcape dealership group to build the fresh sophisticated — which will also include fresh offices, a service garage and a repair workshop for the repair, MOT testing and maintenance of vehicles.
There will also be a car wash and valeting facility built as part of the extensive development.
The land has been vacant since two thousand eleven when the college moved on to its current site in Deane Road and the existing buildings were demolished.
Permission has been granted for Inchcape to build on the majority of the site.
Council leader Cliff Morris said a key milestone has been reached in the project.
He added: “The granting of the main planning consent is excellent news and we are certain that the final necessary deals will be reached.
“We are presently progressing with remedial work to provide a cleared site to Inchcape.
“Terms have also been agreed with Inchcape and we are now proceeding with final contractual talks — once the legal process has finalised, it will permit work to begin."
Cllr Morris believes that when work on the project is ended, it will create a "high quality development on a gateway site into Bolton".
He added: “Together with the fresh £48 million Interchange and the £6.5m Bolton Central office development, it will convert the south of the town centre.”
The dealership development deal has been facilitated by Bolton Council’s public sector partnership, PSP Bolton LLP, which develops and markets council-owned land and assets and encourages businesses to launch projects on the sites.
The council received information that Inchcape was looking to relocate from its existing Bolton premises on the Mill Hill Industrial Estate, close to the A666, to a larger site and had considered leaving the borough.
In a planning statement, Inchcape said: “Audi’s enhancing success in Bolton and the surrounding area is resulting in the need to provide a larger brand fresh facility to cope with request and increase operational facilities also.
“Audi Bolton will need to employ a broad range of staff as part of this investment proposal.”
Inchcape still intend to proceed using the existing Mill Hill Industrial Estate in the interim, while the fresh facility is being built.
