Milpitas: Fremont man arrested in killing of software engineer from India
MILPITAS — A 30-year-old Fremont man has been arrested in connection with the murder of an Indian software engineer in an apartment elaborate parking garage last week, authorities said.
Stuart Ison Baronngaue was booked Friday, the same day as the alleged killing, into the Santa Clara County Main Jail in San Jose on charges of murder, robbery, felony evasion and a felony warrant for a parole disturbance. He is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday.
The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Vamshi Mamidala, 26, of Milpitas, tho’ numerous Indian news outlets reported that he was originally from Telangana, one of the twenty nine states that comprise India.
The events that culminated in Mamidala’s death kicked off around Ten:45 p.m. when Milpitas police officers responded to a report of a solo-car crash on South Main Street, inbetween Superb Mall Parkway and South Abel Street.

A man was seen getting out of a black two thousand two Mitsubishi Galant and running toward the Ilara Apartments. There, police said, he confronted a woman with a firearm, took her keys and stole her car.
Officers heard an apparent gunshot as they arrived in the area and witnessed a car speed away from the elaborate. They chased after the car, which ultimately crashed into another vehicle on South Abel Street at Serra Way and became disabled, according to police.
The driver of the car, identified as Baronngaue, was taken into custody. Police said a firearm was found in the front passenger area.
During a search of the apartment complicated, officers discovered a man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound in the parking garage. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Milpitas police Lt. Raj Maharaj said Mamidala and Baronngaue did not emerge to know each other, but he declined to response other durable questions about the case, including whether Mamidala was shot while attempting to intervene or if race played a role.
“I’m not releasing information on the other questions as it’s still an active investigation,” Maharaj said in an email.
The Times of India reported that Mamidala was shot while returning home from a part-time job.
Mamidala moved to the United States in two thousand fourteen and earned his master’s degree in computer science from Silicon Valley University in San Jose, according to the Times. He was looking for a job in his field. But when he last spoke with his family, he reportedly said he was worried he would not find one with President Trump making things raunchy for non-citizens.

Funds to come back Mamidala’s figure to his parents in India are being collected through a YouCaring page. More than $57,000 had been raised as of Wednesday.
The homicide is the very first of the year in Milpitas. The last one occurred in September 2016.
The warrant Baronngaue was wished on was issued by the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.
