About this publication

Crash data are derived from Traffic Crash Reports finished by police officers who attend fatal and injury crashes. The detailed information about crash circumstances and causes is extracted from these reports by NZ Transport Agency staff and stored in their Crash Analysis System (CAS). The Fresh Zealand crash data introduced in this annual publication is extracted from the information stored in CAS.

  • 8,614 injury crashes
  • 295 deaths
  • 11,219 people injured

Casualty rates for two thousand fourteen were:

  • 33 injuries per Ten,000 vehicles
  • 6.Five deaths per 100,000 population
  • 249 injuries per 100,000 population
